| If you ran Linux you could get just as cool appearances, and even cooler, by using Fluxbox, KDE, or Gnome, or any other good Linux/UNIX desktop environment. |

Alternate shells are cool. I cant wait till the new version of windows comes out. I think the 3d GUI that it will have is going to own. And I heard it will be really easy to program new stuff for it so there should be lots of ways to "skin" it or make cool modifications of some sort. _________________ "I'm weilding the "sword of sacred carnal lotion" which gives me +5 thrusting power (giggidy) as well as the "Sheild of the Three Dragons" (STD)."-TrunkwontOpen

| Didn't they ditch most of the major workings of Aero or whatever the 3D system was.. or was it only WinFS they ditched? Or did they change their minds. |

| I would lve to see a "shell replacement" solution to back up that data as this looks myseriously like the windowblids project....these things are big CPU/memory hogs....as far as im concerned this is the last thing I need taking up my valuable CPU recourses and ram.....I have a slipstreamed version of windows that takes out all that BS graphical bubblegum hogwash...Yeah its plain but i can work peacfully knowing that this "eye candy" is not raping my computer to a point where it is useless... |

ummmmm BSE? Don't you mean KDE...? BSE is the Bedviled Sound Engine for Linux. To my knowledge there is no desktop environment named BSE, or at least that has any bit of popularity. So yea if you're referring to a desktop environment that is POPULAR and LOOKS LIKE WINDOWS (sorta) you're referring to KDE. However, KDE (http://www.kde.org/) sucks and GNOME 2.10< just p0wns everything.
Fluxbox/Blackbox interface is nice also although its really not the case for speed anymore with the speed of modern day PC's the little changes in the desktop environment aren't entirely beneficial. And of course there's tons of other DE projects. |

If only I could get it to look like the OS in Jurassic Park.
Anyone know what the heck that was?! _________________ If you can keep your head while all about you are losing theirs, you clearly have not understood the situation. |

That was the 3D File System Navigator for IRIX 4.0.1+.
I used to use LiteStep on top of 'doze 98 but it is apparantly a big hassle to install on XP (to the point where it can destroy the OS) so I'm still working myself up to it. My favorite MS interface(?) replacement was Technetium for Win 3.1. It was hot shell on shell action.
As for *nix: I've been using GNOME but I don't like it too much. I'm sure it's a total PITA to change though so I deal with it. Would be nice to see the GNOME team stop removing features in the name of "usability" and start fixing real problems like the horrible SMB transfer performance and the generally pathetic state of Nautilus. _________________ ESDF for life |
